For more than 30 years, A3P has established its reputation by bringing together the various players in the biopharmaceutical industry to address the issues they face in their daily lives. A3P’s specificity lies in its unique ability to build networks of experts and opinion leaders working together to solve current and future issues and challenges in a pragmatic and efficient way.

Listening to the demands of our members, A3P has perceived that the implementation of purification schemes (or DSP) for biological active substances (Purified Bulk) was a source of questions and constraints both during the process development and routine commercial production phases.

The purification of biological substances from organ extracts, plants and human plasma has been widely known for almost a century. Similarly, the purification of recombinant proteins or vaccines expressed in genetically modified prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells has been widely industrialised for 50 years. Lastly, extraordinary medical prospects have been generated by gene and cell therapy and, in a completely different field, by Messenger RNA, which came to light again during the Covid crisis. The evocation of these different modalities makes us aware of the diversity of the purification processes used and their specificities.

Clarification, Chromatography, Nanofiltration, Concentration/Diafiltration, … all these operations must be selected, chained, optimized, industrialized in order to solve the challenge of the pharmaceutical industry, namely “to constantly increase the yield, purity and quality while accelerating clinical development and controlling production costs” in order to make these new therapies accessible to the greatest number.

In this context, A3P will organise a thematic day in Lyon on 29 November 2022, focusing on the “Challenges of implementing a purification strategy“. The day will include the presentation of case studies, workshops led by the 4 main suppliers in this sector and an exhibitors’ area to exchange and compare opinions.
